The tours include the harbour area of the city, which is still
to this day very active in providing the city with the majority
of its economic income. No visit would be complete without a
journey to the old part of the town with its narrow winding
streets and picturesque plazas. The grand town hall stands facing
the harbour area, and just a short walk away is the Cathedral.
It houses many relics and historical artifacts from all over
Spain, and due to taking over 100 years to complete has a unique
blend of various architectural stules.
Plaza de Espana and the Constitution Monument are also close
by and serve as a reminder of the liberal constitution that
took place almost 200 yeas ago. Also of interest are some of
the remaining towers from the days of merchants that would look
out across the city for arriving ships with goods on board.
The Tavira Tower is one of the most famous and has a camera
oscura incorporated in order to project panoramas of the city
onto the interior walls.
